In which I’m foiled.
I was just about to install my new 120Gb hard drive into the laptop when the whole project was derailed before it could even get going.
I lack a 2.5mm Allen wrench, first of all. And my Windows XP installation disc is missing.
I could probably get the thing open anyway, but even if I did I have no operating system to install.
Well, that’s not true. I have Win98SE, Win2kPro, and Vista, but not only do I not want to install any of those operating systems, I don’t have drivers for them anyway.
I wonder what the hell I did with that XP disk.
*sigh*

But, wait! I remember when 2K was your faaaavorite? After sp2 for XP, there really is no going back is there?
Well, I guess not. Hmm. You WOULD remember, wouldn’t you. đŸ˜‰ -m
I would say Ubuntu Linux 7.10.
btw after the recent demo track I wanna be yer groupie
Hehe. I’ve installed Linux on laptops before and it didn’t used to be very much fun at all. And thanks! đŸ™‚ -m
I’ll mail you an XP disc.
Vista won’t run on that laptop… they call it bloat-ware.
All the drivers for that laptop can be found at http://www.lenovo.com and you’ll prolly only need the audio and video drivers. Everything else works just fine with M$ drivers. Secp the wifi card… but I think I gave you the CD for that…
Yay!
Good. Don’t want to run it anyway.
You did! -m
Wait… I remember there only being one philips head screw holding the drive in. What’s the hex key for?
The directions say I need an Allen. I haven’t bothered to actually turn it over and look yet, so it could be twine and bubble gum for all I know. -m
Couldn’t you just download XP? That’s what I done last time this fucked up cos all my recovery CD’s were in a box 10000 miles away….
I don’t have a CD-RW, so if I downloaded it it would be on this (the current) drive with no way to install it on that (the new) drive. CD/DVD-RW is on the list of things I want, but I prolly won’t buy one for this laptop. It needs a battery but after that I’m done spending money on it. -m
