In which what I’d expected — then not expected — happens.
I just got laid off.
I may be asked back… in a few months, at the earliest.
Sadly, I’ve remembered that during my base year for unemployment (five quarters ago), I was working part-time. So I may not even be eligible for unemployment in the first place, but even if I am it’ll barely be worth the time to file.
The good news is that I got two weeks’ severance, so at least the mortgage is paid.
Update: Talked to Brett. “You got laid off? You’re shittin’ me!” He thinks I should go back out to Indy, but I don’t want to sell roofs and it would make more sense for me to get an office job here, if I’m going to get an office job. Plus, hello, three dogs and a cat? I doubt the Housesitter wants to live there forever. Hell, I don’t even want to live there, and all my stuff’s there!

Oh babe, I’m sorry. I really was keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Thanks, you. *sniff* Change is afoot, aye what? -m
yes – weird but interesting.
I’m wishing for you that something better comes along.
Thank you, hon. -m
Call me! Call me harder now!
You are going to hate me for saying this, but I just had such a bad feeling with your last post. You are one thrifty bitch, though, and you have a ton of skills. The mortgage is paid, and if you worked there for six months full time then they HAVE to give you unemployment. I say you work at Starbucks and start your own web design biz. I’m so sorry!
M-
Dude…I’m so so sorry about the job 🙁 that sucks ass
I’ve came to my own conclusion that the stars are really screwed up here or my chart is way off this year…SE Iowa bites ass, big ugly ass.
Hugs 🙂
Cassie
Lame.
Weren’t you just talking about how that was the longest running job you’ve had? Maybe it is time for a change, anyway.
gosh mush… that sucks. but i know there is something better out there for you, and it’s waiting for you. you have skills, and tech people seem to always be in demand. hugs to you.
damn! i’m glad you got the severance, but still, that sucks donkey dicks (i heard that somewhere and thought it applied here).
i’m sure the dogs are happier with you at home. oh, and i can testify to mellow cats getting a new lease on stressed out and fighting when it comes to showering. hey, if i win the lottery i’ll come down, hire a plumber and get the upstairs bathroom fixed up so you can at least have a nice shower and i’ll hire you as my site designer. i’m sure i’ll figure something to put on a site, even if it’s just a bunch of links to other places 🙂
Naomi rocks!
No worries, Mushlette. You’ll get another job in a heartbeat. Remember: there are only 9 people in Iowa and 12 jobs.
That sucks!
I hope that things turn around for you soon! 🙂
it’s never easy is it? you get one leg up, then the other follows and you’re left with lying on with your back to the floor.
here’s to swifty employment….
Oh Mush! I’m really sorry to hear that. For what it’s worth, I do have faith that you’ll make it through. This is going to sound silly, but if there’s anything I can do to help, let me know. Seriously.
That absolutely sucks! I’m so sorry to hear that. I don’t know what I can really do from here but think good thoughts and send them your way. . .
Shit, bummer. You have skills, girl, you’ll find something.
Oh, and remember what you once told me – working is for chumps.
Although mortgages are for the supposedly grown up, or so I hear.
I’m going to talk to a mortgage broker and a house next week. Any advice?
ooo, i’m so sorry to hear it. ya know, i can totally go burn your old workplace for ya. just say the word.
